Interesting stories on Sage Narada
Narada, the great sage is always found in the proximity of Supreme Lord Vishnu, and depicted in popular culture as eternally chanting “Narayan, Narayan” – however, he had a very humble birth and had no access to education.
His previous Birth
In his previous birth, he also did not have any education. However, since his mother had fortunate enough to serve devotees of Lord Vishnu, Narada got several opportunities to hear about Lord Vishnu and become closer to him. He became a learned man just thinking about Lord Vishnu.
His role in Ramayana and Mahabharata
Narada plays a prominent role in a number of Hindu epics – notably, the Ramayana and the Bhagavata Purana. In the Mahabharata, Narada’s knowledge (gained from all that travel, coupled with his legendary habit of passing information from one world to another) is used in critical situations to arrive at the right conclusions. For example, it is Narada who requests the Pandava brothers to create a rule for sharing their wife Draupadi, so that they do not end up fighting for her company.
